Student account confusion
Comments

The course I applied for starts April and Oct and if someone drops out I will be starting at the end of this month.0

Ah right yeh Nursing. I would do what foxglove said, open a normal current account, wait until student offers come out, then apply.
Banks don't want to give out student accounts this late (obvious reasons being its nearly the end of term, student have no money and want to borrow loads!)0 -
I have just applied for a current account but was declined!!0

Oh yeh! Sorry I have only just got up
With bad credit rating you could try getting a basic account, but usually to be upgraded to current account you need regular amounts going in, which obviously you won't have being a student.
Co-op are meant to be poor credit rating friendly, but not sure if they will be willing to give a current account out either though.0 -
Ok thanks I'll give them a try.0

Applied for HSBC student account (I already have a Green Advance account with them)
DECLINED!
Credit scoring, usual story. Going to bite the bullet and visit the branch.£2 Savers Club 2014 #74 - £4840 -
FYI if you wait til the natwest campaign you can still have the 16-25 railcard whilst you are a student! So you can have it for the length of your course even if you are over 25.

Don't apply for anymore accounts now as they will be wondering why you want to open a student account at this time of year. Wait til and apply between June and October.Kavanne
Nuns! Nuns! Reverse!

Try lloyds tsb because if they say no to the student account they will give you their basic account with a visa debit card.
Did hsbc say no and the problem may be because you have not got a start date for your course.
Good luck0 -

Even though you are starting the curse at the end of this month, I would advise you to wait until the summer time to open one, as banks might have different offers than the previous years.
If you are considering Natwest, you won't get a student railcard, the promotion only runs through summer and beginning of autumn.
If you don't need an overdraft, don't bother upgrading, as the facilities/features would be the same.0
