Carpet Insurance Claim

Hi,
One of our dogs has had an illness which led to her pooping on our landing carpet which is now ruined. The vet has confirmed she is ill (can't remember the actual name of the condition) and provided treatment - don't know if that makes a difference.
The carpet in question is very old - at least 8 years old - and worn and even has some holes in it where the same dog had a go at it as a pup.
can we claim for this carpet on our insurance?
we have home/contents insurance and pet insurance.
Which would we be best to claim from?
we have never claimed on either insurance before so don't really have any idea what the procedure is. do they tend to send someone out to inspect?

Do you have accidental damage? If you do have a look at your policy booklet carefully because some companies will say they specifically won't cover for damage by pets but others will cover for pet damage.
If you don't have accidental damage at all I don't think this would be covered.
If you are covered you then have to decide if it is worth claiming at all. Take into account the cost of carpet versus any excess and *possible* premium rises next year. (though shopping around at renewal doesn't always mean premuim rises)
Might be worth going onto a comparison site and doing a quote now with no claims and then again with 1 accidental damage claim.
But as I said, it first depends if you have AD then if they even cover for pet damage.
