can anyone fill in a few gaps for me about this gadget...
Am I right in thinking I would require an active landline? BT line has recently been cut off and have no intentions of taking up another contract. Surely there must be a way around this?
Does the tenner a month subscription have to come under the same name as the current sky subscirption. its a shared house and prefer the flatmate not to be responsible for the exxtra cost.
Any deals going on installation charges? not sure how mcuh this would be.
Any advice is greatly appreciated?

one more question while im on...
as i said i got no bt line. could i just get sky to reconnect this. or does it have to be BT, who i then believe tie you into a 12 month contract. the monopolising beggers. What's it going to be, eh?0 -
Yes you have to have a live telephone line to have sky or skymultiroom.
The multiroom would be billed to you the holder of the account. (sorry, i am confused, do you say you want to pay for this multiroom for say a lodger)
Give Sky a ring, although you have to enter a contract for the line, (yes, they do do installations) it is £10 a month as opposed to BT i think £11.50. There are many deals available for installation and line rental. And remember if you havent already got it
broadband is free as well as free telephone calls evenings and weekendsmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
With Sky multi room you need all your sky boxes connected to the phone line so Sky can keep tabs on you to stop you putting the extra sky card(s) that you get for £10/month into another Sky box in another address, so they could get a full sky tv package (£47/month or whatever the full sky tv package costs) for £10/month if the original Sky user was paying for the full package...so if you dont have a telephone line, you wont get multiroom, I doubt if they would consider a separate account for the extra multi room box,0

ok thanks for the replies. one of the other tennants has sky with the full works in her room.
seems silly not got the multiroom and stick it in the living room for the other 4 of us. who currently dont even have normal telly due to bust tv arieal.
I doubt she'll want to take on extra responsibility with multiroom subscription as the house tends to have a high turnover of tennants. hence me wanting a seperate bill.
might have to call sky and ask them to put in a phone line. presume the phone doesnt have to be in same name as sky subscription?
so its going cost me £20 a month for multiroom, phone, and broadband? What's it going to be, eh?0 -
If you just want normal TV, wouldn't it be cheaper to get the aerial fixed than pay £240 a year for Sky?No free lunch, and no free laptop0
-
suppose it would be cheaper aye. although between 4 of us, its not bad price for getting sky sports/movies and broadband. just need to sweet talk the lady of the house. What's it going to be, eh?0

Even if you got this person to agree ( personally I wouldnt) then as a working line is reqd, this other person or you would have to pay for a line to be installed (be it Sky or some other service provider)
Sky may install a 'free' line for a brand new customers but not for sky customers who already take TV0 -
It's not a working line, it's the same working line connected to all boxes.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
