If you can't find an article - ask your library for an inter-library loan - essentially, they'll find it. Sometimes you'll get it sent from the British Libraray.
The bonus thing is, they'll charge you a flat fee (it was a quid in my day) and give you a photocopied version. With the photocopying charges at 12p a page, it was cheaper to get an interlibrary-loan than photocopy it yourself on long articles.
Nowadays, at my uni at least, inter-library loans are about £15 each
Plus, they normally just e-mail you a pdf (although I think paper copies are still available if you request the option)Midas.0 -

Really? My doctorate was in molecular biology - the original source is always key, not matter how old...
If summarising the literature, then you probably want to stick to the last 5 or 6 years, but otherwise...
OP - try the contacting the author/institute they were at when it was written (or funding council) option. It's rather common - back in my research days we would be happy to send reprints to undergrads and to scientists from "poorer nations" freee of charge.April Grocery Challenge £81/£1200 -
If you really struggle, you could try the journal itself...

A big thanks to you all! Where would we be without the internet, huh?!
I have now got the article and will be using it for my dissertation. Just got to get on with writing it up now! :eek:0
