Just did online shop last night at Tesco's and it came to £78 and our cupboards are BULGING. Quite chuffed with myself, Lol
  • I have shopped online with Asda for the past 6 years and have only paid delivery on a handful of occasions. I usually type into the search on this site for asda codes and normally manage to get a free one. I have a large freezer and have put shelving into the garage for large items eg washing tablets, dishwasher tablets, fabric softener. I buy all my cereals, dry goods, dairy etc that has a shelf life monthly, meat from the farm shop in bulk and just have to do a top up shop for fruit, veg and milk mainly. I have a bread maker so I use that but have some stand by bread in the freezer just in case.

Asda have a section on their site with all the offers listed and roll backs. I tick the accept substitute box (with the knowledge that I don't have to accept) and they will price match anything that they do not have available - usually in my favour!

I would recommend the big shop - you just have to be organised - I have found that it is much cheaper - no temptations.....

looks like you got your answer, Scorpio lady!

I need to shop more often than once a month, but try to get codes from here, and go through the special offers first and stock up on things I was going to buy anyway before buying anything full price.

I always use Tesco, as Asda brought us bruised fruit and closer to use-by-date products. I'm sure I was unlucky, but I'm sticking with MrT for now...

It's all fine going round looking for bargains, but it's the golden rule - do I NEED it, will I USE it, is it significantly cheaper, would I have bought it if it wasn't reduced?? :D

Happy Shopping - I read about approvedfoods on here yesterday, I think that's a great idea for big families that are strapped for cash. We are only three so we'd not get through the food quickly enough.

  • I do a monthly online shop for non-perishables (pasta, tins etc), plus whatever prishables I need at the time, then do top-up shops during the month which mainly end up being for bread and veggies.

I partly do it that way, as with a little one I can't buy more shopping than I can bring inside with 1 hand in 1 trip (I live in a 3rd floor flat, so I can't really leave baby in car seat while I take shopping in and come back to her!). I can only do a big shop if DH comes with me, but that is like going shopping with a toddler, the amount of junk food that gets snuck into the trolly when my back is turned ;)

When I do the online shop I get everything on the list, but also have a look what is on offer - if there are any non-preshables which we eat that are on offer I will buy them even if they are not on the list. And there are a few things which I only ever buy if they are on offer.

  • Hi

I do a monthly shop. I spend around £120, this is for lunch, teas and puddings. I make everything from scratch and then freeze it. We have a monthly meal plan that we always keep to. Apart from the odd take out :D.

We used to get fresh milk everyday but now get Marvel.

The only time I go out in the week is for hubbys fags, lol.

I just dont see the reasoning in spending loads on food when theres soooo much nicer stuff we can be buying.
  • I do one monthly shop, then small weekly shops for sandwich fillings, milk, fruit and bread.

For the monthly shop I write my list of the stuff that will keep for the month and beyond. Firstly I look at all the offers to see where I may save money. That's what I like about online shopping. But I stick to my list.
I aim to spend about £60 usually. Although we are quite stocked up at the moment so this month i'll probably just go to Mr T in person and get a few bits.

I like to get stuff like pasta, rice and lentils. Cereals, tins galore - beans, toms, peaches/fruit (cheap pudding). Also if toiletries are on a good offer i'll make up the order with those. Toilet rolls, (a certain male in the household seems to use them up quick). If i've got a voucher for a free delivery and need to make it up to an amount, i'll get a couple of boxes of choccy to put by as pressies or something like that.

I can't buy frezzer stuff as my freezer is rammed!!! Too much visiting the store!

The bad side of online shopping is they don't include whoopsies :(

    I do:
    - a monthly online shop for things like jars, packets, cleaning stuff and drink
    - a weekly shop at the local market for meat, veg, bread, etc, and a pop to local bargain shops for anything
    - a quick pop to the shop when we run out of milk.

Struggling to find online codes for Asda, my shop of choice, but even so it's considerably cheaper than tescos or others.

We have to shop online as we can't drive and live in the back end of nowhere. Do it about once every 1 and a half months with top ups from approved food etc.

I wouldn't reccomend it on cost reasons tbh as it is all out of your hands- you can say to Tesco if x isn't available i'll have y instead, but then it screws up offers and gets complicated....

Also, as has been said, savvy shopping means you can get reduced stuff, but that's not going to happen online. :(
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

  • i used to shop online with Asda ... thought it was really good but i much prefer to go to the supermarket...but i end up adding things in ....howevr with doing online i can get most of my monthly shop from the deal offers and multi saves as you cant really do that in the shop!!! I was ok online but was much easier to see what i have ordered when i can see it in the basket!! adsa still charged for deliver even when you spend over £100... I go supermarket noe though!!

I do a bulk online shop once a month and fill the cupboards, large fridge and freezer and then pop maybe once or twice to pick up fresh veg/fruit/bread when we run out. Used to spend a lot more doing it weekly so I like it this way.
