Does anyone do an online shop for a month?

I need to keep out of the supermarket!

Have seen that Sainsburys do free delivery if you spend over £100, and it looks like all tesco codes have gone. Have looked at my supermarket and prices are about the same and sure I have read that sainsburys basics have less salt/sugar in them.

Not sure where i am going to keep all storecupard stuff, but will have a big eat up first!

Already buy UHT milk so can pop down to local aldi with cash for fruit and veg and yougart

Have to cut food budget as times are hard.

Any tips?

Since i lost my job I have been popping into all the supermarkets in town, picking up bargins! But have spent too much.

Thought if i did an online shop for a month, and walked to local aldi or morrisons, took cash and had to carry it a mile home uphill, I could not be tempted!

I use quite a few shops like Aldi (check online first for offers), Wilkonsons great for deals (mainly no food), Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Tesco's not every week mind you. When I se a decent offer and buy a few then go back following week. Occasionally I do slip up and some things go out of date, mainly crisps, yoghurts seem to be my down fall#

Oh I also sometime go to Herons foods (frozen food/and some groceries) ist a bit like home bargain shop prices

We used to try doing a big shop online each month but ended up throwing so much stuff away. It definitely doesn't work in the case of fruit and veg, and I always ended up feezing a ton of stuff as we couldn't use it all within the dates they had. I also kept forgetting what was in the freezer and just bought more stuff on top. Plus we found we still kept having to go to the shop to top up what we had bought and we spent sooooo much on food. I find doing it online I was missing the really good deals on things I was buying (for example I would change brand to get a better deal if I saw it instore) aswell, and I couldn't compare prices/work out the value as easily.

Now to save money I do a weekly meal plan, and only buy for that week and stick to it! So far so good and we have saved a fortune, and thrown nothing away! I only buy exactly what we need, so write a list, if the fruit and veg I need is on a very good offer I'll get it in the supermarket, but if not I will go to the greengrocers and buy only what is needed ie one courgette, 5 mushrooms etc, much cheaper and fresher! I keep a list on my fridge of other bits we need on the next shop ie household things and will put it on the list as we are just about to run out (saves me duplicating things after buying them out of habit).

I'd say we've cut our bill in half by being strict with the meal plan shopping list. It's tempting being in the supermarket and seeing the offers, it won't harm you to treat yourself now and then!

Don't get me wrong, I think it's fab shopping online, it helped me no end after having the kids!!

Out of all of the ones that deliver I have to say Waitrose gets my vote everytime, you can sometimes find a code for £15 off a £50 spend, and if you don't shop with them for a while they'll send you another (usually £10 then up it to £15 if you still don't order!) . Delivery charges are only £3 Mon- Weds, and £5 Thurs - Sun, which I think is very reasonable. Also if you have to have a substitute they charge you for the lower price, so I always end up with better bits of meat or bigger jars of things for the price of the cheaper item I actually wanted. Tescos have definitely lost my custom to Waitrose!

I don`t shop once a month, I go shoping everyday! That sounds bad I know. I do shoping on line with codes, what I usualy buy is stuff like big bags of pasta, big bags of rice, washing powders, toilet papers, tins of tomatoes, beans, custard, bottles of rabinas & squash, sunflower or olive oil, nappy , wet wipes if you have little ones, pet food, booze if you drink, long life milk. I buy this long life stuff so that I can get lots of money off, I still do shoping , as I lilke going to the shop and find better bargains in there.
If you want to do the shop because you actualy want to use it in the month that might be more tricky as you will run uot of fresh stuff. But it`s great in the long run, my cubbbords are overflowing with food,if there was a war we will survive!

I do a monthly online shop with Sainsbury as I don't drive (nor does my partner) and so with the costs of trying to get our shopping home (bus and tube or three buses) it makes more sense.

We use it mostly for stocking up on heavy items like tins, flour, juices and meat. What I do is work out how many days we will need dinners and buy enough meat/fish for that. So, for instance my last order which came on Thursday had two joints of meat, a whole chicken, turkey breasts, chicken breasts, Scotch beefburgers, beef mince and cod. Plus, a big bag of spuds, tins of beans, tins of fruit, frozen vegetables, and lots of other things. I should mention that I have two freezers and a good sized larder so I can store a lot of food.

One thing I would say is that be wary of buying soft fruit online as it quite often arrives squashed and bruised, so this is something we buy fresh.

  • Hi, I shop online monthly for most non perishables and stuff I usually buy. I buy very little meat, fruit and veg just enough to tide us over for a few days. So I don't have to go into town. If you had your outlay on your online bulk, then you can split money your prepared to spend into weekly amounts. I draw set amout out every thursday and that has to last till next week. This is for fruit, veg, milk, bread and any meat and extra's. Even if you over order 1 month(I bought pasta on offer), you just amend your order the next time. HTH'S.:) good luck
