Real World Handy Andy?

Our new house annoyingly has utility meters in the living room, the previous owner has disguised them with a window seat across the bay window. We'd like to remove this to free up the room a bit and replace it with a discrete cupboard.

Unfortunately I am no DIY fan, and the job will require removing the old installation, constructing something new, replastering the exposed wall perhaps tidying up and exposed cabling etc.

I imagine it wouldnt take an expert handyman more than a few hrs to sort out, but I have no idea where to find such a person!? Any ideas?! Under carpentry, or under handymen, or anyone know any one good in S.London/Surrey?

Cheers :)!

    (CJ'S Hubby Here).

I am a handy man in West Wales and I advertise in local garages, shop windows, and the local paper.

Also from what you describe needs doing without seeing it I would quote you 2 days work and about £170-£200. inclusive of materials. just as a guide line
    Money's too tight to mention!!!

  • You need more than a handy man, anyone working with gas and electrics has to be registered - Corgi for gas and something else for electrics.

As I understand it none of the gas/electrics are actually being changed or touched, just a wooden housing that hides them. As such I imagine that what's needed is some caution and a keen eye with a chisel etc ;)

Thanks peeps, yeah we have no intention of altering stuff, just hiding it. We'd certainly need someone to be a bit careful and whatever is built needs to provide access - the current window seat kinda lifts off to allow readings.
