My PC is running slow, running o of virtual memory and hard drive getting full.
Ive full scanned for viruses etc and have installed c cleaner. There are 40mb to be removed from the scan and on the registry there are hundreds and hundeds of things. Ive left the ticked boxes to those it defaults to - are there any risks in now fixing the issues and running c cleaner? I dont want to risk my PC not working or documents being deleted?
Ive tried a disk defrag but when it scs it says it isnt needed.
Is there anything else i can do?
One other thing - how do i decide what runs at start up - ie msn currently does which i dot want but cant find the options?
Thanks guys

Run ccleaner it should delete anything important. You can try a regitry defrag and having a look at you're startup programs and removing the ones you dont need starting up when the computer boots.
Alternatively if the hard drive is real full back up some of it to a different one as if its over full it will slow things down a lot.0 -

Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
Click DO A SCAN AND SAVE A LOGFILE (Takes seconds) then post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log):idea:0 -
There are programs you can use for it. It depends on your needs, if you just want to copy your files over you can do it manually or use a program, if you want an on going thing then a program is the best.
Do what alienrik suggests, its worth doing just in case.0 -
As for your startup applications, try MalwareBytes' StartupLite. It uses a database of startup apps that can be disabled and is *very* easy to use.

I've also found that deleting all but the last system restore (the computer won't let you delete them ALL anyway) can save up to 10% of disk space, depending on how many restore point you have.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

On XP, go Control Panel/System then select System Restore tab, highlight your C drive, click settings and move the slider to about 1000mb, apply/ok etc.Move along, nothing to see.0
