EON - Fixed Price 17 v FixOnline NSC (Opinions Please)

Hello All,

I am on the Fixed Price 17 which I took out towards the end of July 2008 missing out on some of the better offers.

Looking at the price comparison websites, there are cheaper regular tariffs like the NPOWER Sign Online tariff which would mean a £90 a year saving.

Is it better to fix at the moment?

If I was to fix on the newer tariff, there would be a small saving of £16.19 over a year.

I know this isn't much but my tariff comes to an end on 1st October 2009 and this new tariff continues until May 2010, providing better protection against any potential price rises.

With my current tariff, the Fixed Price 17 I am not tied in to a contract and so are able to switch, though by moving to the FixOnline tariff I would be tied in to a contract.

I'm not sure I would jump to Npower, whatever the savings. They don't get a good press.

I moved from eon to npower in Novemeber - and am moving back. Found the service really poor.

Anyone have any views of switching between the 2 fixed tariffs from Fixed Price 17 to FixOnline?
  • In the latest Which energy company survey into value for money and customer service npower gor 30% satisfaction rating and E.on 39%. Neither scores would make me rush to sign up to them, TBH.

    Hi
The FixOnline prices may offer you slightly better prices and save you a bit of money; this will also give you the fixed unit prices, so you know you won’t be affected by price increases.

However, you would not benefit if the prices were to decrease again, whereas the Capped, Price protection tariff will decrease if prices fall.

As you have also said the FixOnline prices is a contract and you may be charged if you wanted to change from these prices.

You will need to decide if the savings you will make by changing to FixOnline is enough; compared to staying on the same tariff, bearing in mind the prices may fall.

There is no right or wrong answer; it does depend on what you would prefer. We just don’t know what will happen to prices in the future.
