Nursery fees, London

Options
Hi all,

Hope some people can help give me a clue to the above.

We are looking to relocate down to London next year. We will hopefully be living in West/South West London and need to get an idea of how much nurseries are currently charging to try and work out a realistic budget. Our daughter will be about 2.5 yrs when we move, so not too far off the age for some free nursery care. We would ideally like her to be in a nursery as that is where she is at the moment, though I wouldn't mind hearing about the cost of other forms of childcare. It would not be full-time, more like around 20 hours per week. Unsure what days/sessions we would require yet, but a general overview of price would be fab.

Thanks in advance,

Alley

We have DS2 in Leapfrog nursery in North London , he goes for 2 morning sessions a week from 0800-1300. We pay £29 per session for which he gets breakfast/snacks and Lunch. Nappies and milk are also included in the fees. We pay £251 per month (average) and we are exceptionally happy with the childcare he receives. Leapfrog is a national chain with fully CRB vetted staff. DS1 went to Jigsaw nursery until that was bought out , by which time he went off to school nursery. I believe what we pay is pretty average for London or the South East , but best to check it all out . HTH

We live in South West London -( Wimbledon to tooting) and nurseries in our area are about 35-40 pounds a day... it can be a lot more too. a friend is in roehampton and pays about 60 a day.. crazy I know...good luck as even at those prices, there are waiting lists at most of them....

That is still a lot less than local childminders , are you in London?

I have guestimated that it will be about triple what we are paying at the moment. Are childminders/shared nannies cheaper or more expensive in London as they can be marginally cheaper here. We just preferred the atmosphere at nursery as there is a good age range of kiddies and it is so close to where we live. Its not posh, but very well run.

  • My son goes to a private nursery school (Montessori) and they charge £40 for morning and £30 for afternoon class or £75 for the whole day. I'm in North London.

Does the above help? I have to say I'm  at the prices mentioned I hope London wages are accordingly more. I pay £24 for 8-5.30pm at our local nursery. (Yorkshire)
  • You will find london nurseries expensive. Sorry but that is how it is. I did "two under two" returning to full time work at six months after each birth. At one time some three or four years ago my monthly fees were just shy of £2,000.
