Hi,

I'm looking for suggestions for a camcorder for my daughter. I think the SD card type would suit best. Ideally able to take good stills too, say >4M pixels. Widescreen is a must as is 25fps and 576 or 1080 lines to suit uk TV. Waterproof would be nice.

Or if waterproof is too limiting or expense a separate waterproof stills camera able to do low quality movies too.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Well you are all over the place with what you want, camcorders do not take a decent still photo. UK frame rate is 25fps. 1080 line is HD you want this for your Daughter! Waterproof ---- unlikely.
Look at https://www.dpreview.com for cameras and WH Smith mag. dept for What video?

Thanks for the link but that site seems to be more stills than camcorder. I think you might be out of date. camcorders used to take poor stills and probably most still do. I have a sony miniDV that takes 2Mpx stills which are adequate. The other day in tesco they had, out of stock, a few camcorders that surprised me. Around £100 mark, 8-10Mpx, recording on SD card, video and stills. I forget the number/make but for example look at the Toshiba H10 which is on pixmania for £135. However the H10 is 30fps and 720/480 lines so USA standard not UK.

Also, on pixmania is the the Panasonic SDR-SW21 which is a waterproof camcorder at £304. But the spec on that is not very good and think you're paying a lot just for the waterproof part. The Olympus MJU still waterproof is £140 on Ebuyer. So I think most cost effective would be a waterproof stills with poor video function (just the beach) and a good camcorder with good stills for everywhere else. But I'm looking for ideas and suggestions.

By the way my daughter is 18, perhaps it came across that she was younger.
