Are you looking for somewhere safe to put your cash.
Guarantees a minimum return of up to 5%
..............................................................................
From an advert today in the Daily Telegraph from Stanley Gibbons ( Guernsey) limited.
A question:-
If I invest £1000 what is the actual minimum return that is guaranteed.
How much more would I be guaranteed if I was guaranteed a minimum return of up to 10%
How much would I be guaranteed if I was guaranteed a minimum return of upto 200%.
Do they think the readers of the Telegraph are thick?

With adverts like that the FSA ought to be involved. When you start presenting your "product" as an investment and marketing it as such then it ought to fall under FSA regulations.
They can say all sorts of things that regulated firms cannot and would be fined for if they did. If a consumer buys this "investment" they have no protection under the FSA rules which means no FSCS protection and no ability to complain to the FOS.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Pretty astute demographic marketing. They'll know that only old fogies read the Telegraph and most of those will have poor eyesight.

I posted about this exact investment last year. I think they've changed their terms, it seemed far more attractive back then. (I didn't take it up at the time).Mmmm, credit crunch. Tasty.0

If you search for their company name on Google one of the first links is a complaint about their ads investigated (but not upheld) by the ASA - http://www.cap.org.uk/asa/adjudications/Public/TF_ADJ_44339.htm0

Read what it says,
It isn't misleading, it is designed to confuse.
0.1% is a "guaranteed minimum return up to 5%", so is 0%.0 -
From looking at their website the terms are clear, if you commit for 10 years you're guaranteed 5%pa, for shorter terms it's 4%pa. More relevantly, as dunstonh points out, is that as far as I can see there's no mention on their site of who they're regulated by or even what country they're based in. Best avoided.0
