My laptop is running ridiculously slow and I was wondering if there was anything I could do to speed it up a bit.

first things first before downloading any cleaner and malware removal programs . try running the system cleanup .
this should clear out unneeded files - then use disk defragmenter.
what operating system are you using - I would guess at either XP or VistaDon't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -

Hi, double click the 'My Computer' Icon and this will open to show your disk drives. Right click on the drive marked 'C:' a menu will pop up, left click 'properties' on this menu. Now you'll see a 'disk cleanup' button, click on this and wait a while while it sorts out the necessary files. Then click 'OK' and confirm 'yes'. Now repeat the above but on the box where you clicked 'disk cleanup' click on the 'tools' tab, then click on 'defragment now' then when the next box pops up click 'defragment'. This should help a lot. Post back if you still have problems.0 -
