Travelex query

Morning All!
I'm off to New Zealand on the 14th March for 3 weeks, and have finally got around to thinking about money I'll need there! lol

I am thinking of pre-ordering/paying for it online with Tavelex, then to pick it up at the Terminal on the day I depart...so....

Has anyone else used this system? Is it reliable? good exchange rates??

All advice and comments are greatly appreciated!

Thanks :D

Yes, I've used the service and it was reliable and easy. They claim their rates for doing it this way were better, but I never really checked, to be honest.

I've used them once, also with no problems, but I generally use the ATM's at the arrival airport to get cash on my debit card (Nationwide) which doesn't charge a commission fee & therefore gives a better rate.

Ordering online and picking up at the airport will guarantee the best rate. Their rates at the airport are very poor.

  • it depends on what type of debit card / which bank you are with. my bank would charge me for purchasing currency using my debit card in this way . so marks and sparks have been best for me for currency before i leave. in process of getting nationwide account after advice from this board for drawing money abroad

Yes used them twice with no problems. Exchange rate on-line is better than banks and high street. You have to use a card to guarantee the transaction and my bank charges1.5% for this. Even with this charge the exchange rate is better or equal to the high street rates and was much beter when we exchanged an unusual currency. For a small charge they will also guarantee to buy back any surplus currency I think at the same rate you purchase at. (you would need to check the detail of that).

Use them all the time, pay with my Halifax visa debit with no charge.
They have very long opening hours at the airports but check on their site to make sure for when you go.

i've never seen them 1.5% cheaper than marks and spencers . for clarity i go to the m&s store to get the currency.
  • as an example travelex rate for nz is 2.5591
    m&s rate is 2.55

I've used them. They offered to change anything back at the same rate on my return. Unfortunately they closed their offices (at Birmingham) at midnight so I ended up having to send cash by Special Delivery to get a cheque back. Their suggestion of returning to the airport during the day was not very appealing (from Devon). I suggest that you check opening hours if you intend to do this. Otherwise seemed fine.
  • Been using them for about 18 months now. Never had any problems with them and their online exchange rate has been consistently higher than anywhere else.
