Merry - my life as a Discharged Bankrupt!

Well I thought I would start this - mainly because I can't change the title of my old thread
I filled in an online application form for a Sainsburys Saver Account - I know that banks seem loathe to let an ex-bankrupt open a savings account, just no idea why.
Paperwork arrived this morning, along with a letter saying they need a copy of my discharge letter. So I have filled it in, signed it, and done a photocopy and will pop it into the post to see what happens there.
Am also filling in my request to attend a tribunal for my DLA application. I have two herniated discs, which I have been suffering with since March 2006. I have had spinal injections which did me no good at all, and finally accepted that the pain might not get better, and I should deal with things as they are. I live on a bizarre cocktail of drugs, get up stairs on my hands and knees, and there are times when I just can't move because of the pain. My girls are amazing - even the little one lets me use her head 'as a crutch' if needed, and they are well practiced at helping me get off the sofa when everything locks up
I applied for a Blue Badge but was turned down as my Dr said it wasn't a 'permanent disability' Ok, so I know she hopes things will get better, but as it's been going on for three years now I was surprised that she did that. I spent some time with a very helpful lady from DIAL who is helping me with my appeal, and she said not to apply for another Blue Badge as based on my case she thinks I might be entitled to the higher rate of DLA, which would mean I can have a blue badge automatically.
And I am moving house!!! :j The lease is up here in a month, and I managed to find somewhere else that happily took me as a bankrupt (I didn't know I was discharged then  ) with my guarantor. Again, only a six month lease but with the strong possibility of extending it. So housing benefit form to be completed, utilities, etc and of course packing up the house and actually moving!
My plan is to get moved safely, then start clearing my credit file - I can see Max has been having some fun with O2 which doesn't give me much hope as they are one of my creditors, and were the ones who use Westcott to threaten and hound me. We shall see!
Wish me luck - discharged and planning on making the most of life!

I wish you loads of luck, Merry :T :T :T
Your final sentence sums it up admirably - you deserve it. :AI am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Just out of interest is you new place with an agency or private let? Current agency is Property Moves - they were incredibly helpful as I was still bankrupt, but they talked to the landlady and basically told her I was a good 'risk' as a mother with three kids, with a decent disposable income as I didn't have to pay any credit cards, etc!! So kudos to them :j Mind you, will see how long they take with my deposit!
New agents are Spencer & Leigh. I wasn't sure how they would be - for some reason always struck me as a bit snooty. Explained I was bankrupt (didn't know I was discharged  ) but that I had a guarantor, could meet the rent from my salary but was also eligible for housing benefit, and that I was looking for a 'home' for me and my kids, not just somewhere to doss for a while. They didn't bat an eyelid, and have been pretty decent - keep in touch regularly, talked to the landlord about queries. So far, so good.
And yes - remember where I moved from? Moving back around there, nr Ladies Mile would you believe!! It's good for bus to school for eldest two, and nice and easy to get to/from work for me! So you're stuck with me Waspy!

Good luck with everything Merry. You've got to have fighting spirit where benefits are concerned.

I must admit, I know now I filled in the form completely wrong. It was full of how I cope, what adjustments I have made, rather than the help I need
