                    Hi Guys,
Just a quick question about claiming on my contents insurance....
I spilled water in my laptop the other day (don't ask!). Now I believe I can claim on my insurance but...
* The laptop is 5 years old, do I get the equivilant laptop in todays market (it cost £1200 back then)?
* How much is my insurance likely to go up next year?

They will try and repair it first, if it cannot be repaired they will normally get one of their suppliers to replace it with an equivalent lap top. You need to bear in mind that technology has increased dramatically over the last five years so I would not be surprised if a laptop in the £400ish price range would be an equivalent.
Beaware that due to the age of your lap top some Insurers will ask you a lot of questions to ensure its a valid claim.0

            Thanks for the reply dacouch.
Ok so assuming they can't repair it, they will replace it with an equivilant laptop (let's just assume a £350 one..).
Do they offer a cash alternative so I can choose the laptop or put it towards something a little more expensive?
And is it really going to be worth claiming on my insurance for £300 (£50 excess)?
 Thanks!

Only you can make that decision- do dummy runs for quotes to see the affect it will have on you.
Most insurers, if they replace the laptop will allow you to put additional money towards it using their discount to upgrade if you want.0
