your first post stated you couldn't put up with JSA much longer.

which is worse, unsociable hours or JSA?

I think you have a choice here, if you are getting nowherer with office jobs. Plus an evening job leaves you free for interviews in the day.

it's easier to get a job once you have a job IYSWIM. I would go for the bar work short term.
    Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.
  • I know it is easier to get a job when in one but i have always said that i would never want to work at a bar, i know i have to weigh up how desperate i am but at the moment i would rather try and get a job in an office, there are jobs out there so it is not a lack of jobs stopping me its just that i have been unsuccessful, Il keep trying and im sure something will crop up!

Limiting yourself to office work when you've no experience in this area isn't likely to bring you success, neither is being so restictive in the geographical area you're prepared to work.

Every week you're unemployed makes you less employable; you really need to be more flexible.

Why should tax payers pay for you to sit on JSA just because you dont 'fancy' a job working unsociable hours!
Take what you can get and be greatful for it!

Have you tried applying for temp jobs through an agency?

If you don't have any recent office experience, this might be a good way to get your foot in the door. Even if you only land a few days here and there at first, it'll all help build up your credibility.
  • Thats the thing i have office experience three years of it.
I have paid tax all these years and that is why i am entitled to JSA
Im not a sponger, if i was i wouldnt have started this thread and stated that I do not want to stay on JSA for much longer.

Just because someone mentions a job, does not mean I have to go and do it.
Some people can handle working in a bar, i for one would not enjoy it, im not saying for one minutes that you have to enjoy a job to do it, its just not something i am interested in.

I have also looked at applying for air traffic control training but after reading into it they give you a pretty thorough medical and even if there is one discrepancy in the medical they will fail you. I have problems with my knees and therefore would not pass the medical, which i am gutted about as I really enjoy aviation and everything linked to it.
  • Yes i have signed up to several agencies, I have been signed up with them for the same amount of time I have been looking and they have found me nothing.

Can I suggest you get out there!

Suit on, covering letter and CV in a envelope (x200) and walk around every establishment you can find handing the letter in.

You should certainly do this! Try phoning ahead to make an appointment with whoever fills temporary positions, covering sickness etc. I assume that you would be available at short notice to take up a temporary position - assure them of this (really labour the point in fact), leave them with a neat, clear cv, telephone number and mobile number. Then be ready each morning! I've done this before - you get a good range of experience and can be offered permanent work if you are lucky.
  • Im ready to go and i state this on all application forms.
Im sure something will pop up then i can start a thread saying i have a job!!

getting office work is really had unless you have some experience, could you possibly do a day or two a week voluntarily with a charity in an office just so you can get some experience and an office based reference on a CV. What about trying to get some work experience, in my old job we actually kept on and paid two of the people who came for work experience as they were really good!

What sort of jobs are you applying for, you say office based, but what do you mean, admin assistant type positions or more IT support type jobs??
