Should I be looking at another type of Oyster if I stay for four days then? I thought this Oyster thing did all this for you.

You should be looking at whether putting a 7 day travelcard on the Oyster would work out better than the daily capping rate. For 4 days offpeak the PAYG route is still best.

OK I see what you mean. I thought it was the case that if I was there for say 7 days in a row, that it would somehow calculate that fact and then deduct or credit the card accordingly. Are you saying that I somehow need to go and specifically take the card I have and then request that I want a 7Day travel pass putting on it?

If that's what you want - then yes, though I'm not actually sure whether they will upgrade the card you have or give you a new one.

Looking at the pricing for the multi day cards I think I'm better off with the day cards unless I stay there in excess of 4 days that is. But next time I go to London I'll enquire about it anyway to see if I need to change the card. I thought there wa only one Oyster card!

There is only one Oyster card - it is what you put on it which makes it different.

I just put £25 on it when I go to London and then it deducts the daily amounts and as I stay in zone 1&2, and use it off-peak it tends to deduct not more than £5.60 per day.

If I stayed for say 5 days would it take £5.60 x 5 = £28.00, or is it clever enough to deduct only £25.80 which is the price of a 7 day adult travlecard?

No it isn't that clever - it only works in single days. It would deduct 5 days - though I think the cap is £5.10 a day, not £5.60. Maybe a little more if you stray outside zone 2.

No its £5.60 for the day, off-peak in zones 1&2.

£5.60 is for the travelcard. Oyster caps at 50p less.

Another New Liebour scheme that has turned into a bit of a PR disaster - like the 10% tax fiasco !

I think the problem is that the councils don't get the full amount from the governemnt to pay for the buses so the bus companies don't get the full amount either. Our local buses no longer do return fares as we have 3 different buses due to competition rules!!! and they can't work the system so they get reimbursed if you go on one type of bus and come back on another company. So fares for everyone have gone up alot.

Also the free swimming will be the same I expect and free gym membership a millstone for poll tax payers!! As they make up the money not paid to the councils from the government.
