Saxon Cathedral Crypt !

That is what my garage smells like on a damp morning.
The felt has had it inspite of repairs over the last 5 years and now the chip-board is like a sponge and I'm worried the rafters could be affected.
I'm planning to get it done this summer, it is a double with a workshop area so I reckon about 3 grand but haven't got quotes in yet. Thing is, I'm curious if there could be an alternative to ply and felt ? I'm certain we couldn't afford fibre glass roofing and I guess a "green" roof would still need the necessary felting prior to a growing medium being placed and I might need planning consent for this.
I won't tell you about the two distinctive fungi that are there because I know that my/our neglect is the price of how bad it has become.
Could it be worse ? I hope not, but we've managed to save the bulk of the anticipated cost. Anyone else had such a bad flat roof ?
