Couple of us thinking about coming down to the gp this year should have done this in january as accomodation seems pretty hard to get anywhere near silverstone. so thinking of a couple of ways to get there as cheap as possible.
thinking of flying to luton (from glasgow) £48 return inc taxes and probz another £60 for a hotel in luton - are there any cheap buses that go from luton/airport to the track??
the other alternative would be to drive to somewhere in the birmingham region and staying over somewhere, then drive down to the gp in the morning i know for this that silverstone might not allow me a parking permit as there are only going to be 2 of us in the car
all advice is welcome, then once ive got this one planned and booked i then need to decide between German gp at Hockenheim or going to the spanish gp

I have been many times and have camped - a lot of people make a mini holiday of it and stay for a few days and watch practice etc.
Silverstone is a pain to get to by public transport though there are coaches and buses laid on from places such as Milton Keynes or Northampton so you could get the train to MK and then get the coach service.
I would recommend the camping - You could buy a cheap camper van or similar on ebay and then sell it after ! Or use a tent as the weather should not be too bad. Tha atmosphere is great - I choose to use a small private campsite rather than the huge ones where you can party all night ! PM me and I'll send you the details. There are plenty of pubs around and it really is a
fun place to be. Nearby villages have chinese and Indians, but most people BBQ.To infinity and beyond!0 -
If you fly to Luton there isn't a train to Milton Keynes, but there is a Virgin Rail Link Coach, which goes MK Station to Luton Station (possibly also Luton Airport Station). I have heard rumours of people having difficulty getting Virgin to admit this exists however!!, once in MK it should be easier to find some way to get to Silverstone.0

Not sure if they lay on special services for GP weekend, otherwise MK to Silverstone will require a transfer via Towcester.
So you could be....
Glasgow - Luton Airport - Milton Keynes - Towcester - Silverstone!
Or you could do ... Glasgow Central - Rugby - Northampton - Silverstone by train and direct bus from Northampton.0 -
i drove on day of grand prix last year it was easy in and easy out and parking was fine, loadsa room. they closed the opposite carrigeway and used that so make sure you follow the directions, everyone split to go the same way depending on north or south. only 2 in car no probs.
we stayed in travel inn nearby - cant remember where sorry but the drive on the day was not ardous at all
have fun, might buy myself a ticket yet.......Ready to Go Go!0 -

In the last couple of days the Express had an article on people hiring motorhomes to travel to the World Cup in Germany, cheaper than flights and accommodation. Do you have a hire company near you in Glasgow, if not I'm sure there'll be one near Luton.
i drove on day of grand prix last year Jen_Jen, did you get a podium place !!!There's no woman sicker than the woman who is sick on her day off !0
