  • Depends on the material etc... Some fabrics will leech colour all their lives, no matter what, so you need to research whether this would be the case here. also even with handwash, some detergents are just too strong and can really mess up some clothes.

No receipt is not necessarily a problem if he paid by card, he can produce a statement. It's "proof of purchase", not "receipt". If he paid by cash however, little he can do, I'm afraid. Maybe write to their HO and see of they will do something as a GOGW if they care about their brand image, but that's about it.

thanks bookworm - he doesnt have the receipt or bag and didnt pay by card so i suppose itll be relegated to work clothes now lol....my son not really bothered as hes young and doesnt look at it how i do but, to me £50 is a lot of money (yes butlers - it is a lot of money to some people)

i am going to write to head office and see what they say....

    thanks all

Try taking it back to the shop first. I did this years ago with a bikini I bought from FCUK at House of Fraser. After my week's holiday it was horribly faded, so I took it back, asked nicely and they gave me a full refund. Won't always work like that but if the shop is nearby, it's worth a try before going to Head Office???

I'm a little confused. Do you mean some dye came out into the water when you were washing it or that the top faded dramatically after washing?

yes im off town tomorrow so will try first to see what happens....

bap - its a grey hoodie top with a sort of bling effect logo and round the bling there is a sort of picture of men dancing or something like that - the picture was meant to stand out - it was bright red and had a hologram effect....its the redness and hologram that has faded - it is now completely black with no redness....

i didnt think my son would care but he has asked me to take it back and see what happens cos he is annoyed over the waste of £50 - hes finally realising the value of money lol...

While you are out buy your son an A4 file to contain his receipts in future. It's no more effort to pop them in when clearing out his wallet as it is to drop old receipts into the recycling.

If this is a branded top that can be purchased at more than one chain store you are unlikely to get the money back without a receipt. In that case you will have to write to the manufacturer directly. If it's a store own brand top you can 'prove' it was purchased from that chain as it's not possible to have acquired it by other means. You usually have to argue the toss on this one and know your rights IME.

thanks for tip firefox lol...i actually did buy him a storage system for all his paperwork and a pettycash tin for his spare change - just getting men to use the things is the problem lol.....i think once he has his own place he may just realise but, he does seem to be catching on better and actually looks at things like bank statements now and that....typical 20 year old really....

yes, i will see what happens when i go to the shop....the top is actually an unfamiliar make and i think it is just that shops make so that should make it easier ....

will recap once i have been.......
