I have posted a link to the nursing and midwifery council (NMC) which may help answer your question. The NMC states that long term illness such as depression can be well managed and is not a barrier to registering as a nurse. Make your application and see how you get on. Best of luck!

I've qualified as a social worker despite suffering long term depression. It shouldn't be any problem at all (it's actually against the law to discriminate against you on this basis!). Just as long as your fully aware that the job isn't always a happy one and can assure the uni that your capable of getting help if you feel you need it, you'll sail through!
Good luck! xx0 -
I started my nurse training in January, I also have a history of depression. Occupational health just wanted to know how I managed my depression, what coping strategies I have in place etc. They are there to help and support you, not discriminate against you.
Good luck with your application!0 -
I know of someone who is bi-polar and now a staff nurse. She trained after her diagnosis and against the advice of her psychiatrist at the time.
Depression will not be a barrier so long as you manage it, as said.0
