comparison sites
As a tennant of a 3 bedroom house that we moved into December how am I best to use a comparison service?
I have been taking monthly readings since we moved in but I have no idea of how much we may use over the period of a year.
Obviously we've just been through the winter months and these are going to be a higher proportion of use compared to what's to come.
So basically I don't know what to enter into the boxes on the comparison sites.
What would you suggest?

Whatever fuel you use for the heating you will use half (or less) in the summer months, the fuel you dont use for heating would stay around the same throughout the year
Work out your winter quarter usage for fuel used for heating then multiply by 3 to get a years worth
The one not used by heating multiply by 4 to get a years worth.
Remember if you are taking meter readings yourself then your gas meter will measure in either cubic feet or cubic meters.
If its cubic feet you will need to multiply the yearly figure by 31
If cubic meters then multiply by 11.5
These will give you some very rough figures to work with.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Hi Hippyer
As you have 3 months of readings you could start by just putting in 4 times that for a year to give you an idea of how your current supplier compares with the market. You can then tweak the answer a bit to see if it makes a difference to the result. For info, for what it is worth, the "average" annual usage for a 3-bed semi or terrace is 20,500 kWh for Gas and 3,300 kWh for electricity (this goes up to 6,600 if you have economy 7). Everyone is different, but it will give you something to compare against.
Happy checking
