incorrect number plate for 6 months!
Hi there,
When renewing my car tax for the first time today it came to light that the number plate on my car (drove off the forecourt with 14 miles on the clock) was incorrect.
so for the last 6 months i've been driving a car with a number plate that is not registered to any car in the UK.
Other than the customer service and incompetence issues i will raise in a complaint letter to the dealer, should i address anything in terms of driving (unknowingly) illegally for the last 6 months?
thanks in advance for any help.

Strange but true, today i went to tax my bike online and was knocked back as I didnt appear to have a valid insurance policy. Turns out insurer had the wrong reg number (my fault, even if I gave them the right one, I should have checked the schedule and had it corrected before this).
Does the reg number on the logbook match the one on the car? What reg number did you have insurance on?0 -
hiya,
insurance was on the reg that was on the car when i bought it. was all i had to go by as they were so slack sending the new keeper details to the dvla i didnt receive the log book til a couple of months later.
the dealer printed me new, correct plates today and have changed the insurance so now log book, insurance and number plate are all the same!
it was the lady in the post office that spotted it, she said she'd do it but i would have to correct the wrong letter in the number plate with my insurance co. and so alram bells started ringing...

I'd let them have both barrels then. Anything I could think of.
A letter to the Post Office praising the lady that spotted it might be a nice touch too.0 -
Someone made a mistake - nobody has suffered any loss or real hassle, so just as long as they fit you the correct plates, why waste your time writing letters & complaining?
I'm a good one for moaning about things, but i wouldn't bother with this one.
You might even have saved some £$£, if you've been a bit norty on the yellow lines/speedscamerers/any other government revenue earning scheme!!

I've seen the dealership having to recall two customers cars before now as they had transposed the number plates from one to the other - 7 months after they were purchased!
And also managed to send a car out with different plates front and rear! - that one was spotted after 24 hours.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!
There are three types of people in the world, those who can add up and those who can't.0 -
yeah i suppose you've got a point, but to be honest it was quite a bit of hassle. its not too much to ask for the correct number plates.

That happened to someone I know, and it was over a year before it was spotted.
I had a car for 4 years or so, before anyone (including me) noticed a digit missing on the VIN number on the logbook. (Vehicle correct, logbook had an invalid VIN number with not enough digits.). It took an eagle eye border guard in Morocco to spot that one, and cost me a couple of packets of ciggies to cross the border :cool:0 -
dont send a letter saying the lady in the post office spotted it and let you have it any wayy, simply that she spotted it0

Look on the bright side just think of all the parking and speeding tickets you will have missed out on.0

Personally I wouldn't do this as she will probably get in trouble for issuing the Tax disc without the paperwork being correct and matching up.0
