Not sure if theres enough interest here but I thought it worth finding out. What must have linux programs do you use?
I know a lot of use will use the same ones but a few of us might shed some light on programs we didn't know about and might like. My ones are:
Freemind - mind mapping software (also avaliable on windoze).
rTorrent - very good command line torrent client
ddate - just a little fun that comes with most distros that tells you the discordian date.
OpenOffice - obvious
Devede - video burning program
Theres a few more but dont want to bore.

conky - displays system stats down the side of the desktop
Wine - for running windoze programs
VLC Media Player - this one should be obvious as to what it does (multiplatform)
Samba - for sharing files to windoze machines0 -
If you've got a windows PC, (or more), on your network then Zenmap and Nessus are a good way of checking them out for funnies. I also use iptraf for packet monitoring which can log data to be viewed later.
If you've got a windows virus it will normally try and scan 192.x.x.x, 172.x.x.x, (and other addresses that can't be sent over the 'interwebs' routers), to see what else it can infect.0 -
Forgot to mention wget, a brilliant little downloader, can download whole websites easily and make the servers think its a browser.0

Just goes to show that there are Linux alternatives out there. Here is one for the gamers, Play On Linux
http://www.playonlinux.com/en/
This one allows you to customise WINE settings on a per game basis & works sweet & dandy.0 -

Thats the thing, sometimes and for somethings I actually find the commandline easier to use, more straight forward. That could be a product of becoming a geek though.0 -
Hi thought it might be useful to give a roundup of distros used too, I'm currently putting Ubuntu onto a few machines and even newbs are finding it really usable, Any others worth a try?0
