Booking flights in UK starting outside UK

Hi
I'm trying to book a flight for my brother who lives in NZ. The price of a flight starting in Auckland to London and returning to Auckland is around £400 more than if you started in London!
Does anyone know of a way around this obvious airline rip off?

Go and visit him instead.0

Why is it an "obvious rip off"? It could be your brother wants to travel at a peak time for people coming from NZ to the UK but which isn't a peak time for UK to NZmarchantsuk wrote: »Does anyone know of a way around this obvious airline rip off?0 -
It's not, strictly speaking, a rip off, but I wouldn't be able to tell unless I was searching for availability for this flight at work.marchantsuk wrote: »Does anyone know of a way around this obvious airline rip off?
Many airlines, especially national airlines, have certain rates on certain flights which can only be booked in the country of origin. I see about 10-15 rates a week which can only be booked in the country of origin and it makes sense really when you think about. It really is a small percentage of flights that are this applies to but it could be the case in this instance.
A lot of national airlines have an element of government backing so it's only fair that they reserve some rates for nationals of the country they 'belong' to.
It all depends which airline you are booking, which flight, which date, availability, etc...0 -
It was the same recently when flying back to UK from Malaysia.I could have flown Glas-KL for £420 return but KL-GLA was £800. I just kept watching the prices as I really wanted to fly Emirates and could come anytime. I was lucky thery brought flights down in a 4 day window preiod and I just booked. Brits moan about the price of flights but they are getting better deals on long haul than here in Asia.0

OK smart !!!!!!, Yes I could send money, yes I could visit him (but not the point). How can you book a round the world ticket (or return) in the UK but choose a start point outside the UK. The same flight booked in the UK is £400 cheaper than if you start in NZ. However you cannot buy in the UK and not start from there.0
