Hello - this is my first ever go on the Forum.
I just wanted to share my recent expereince with regards to my daughter's University Bursary.
Basically, not being well versed on the subject, I wasn't sure if she was eligible for a bursary, so at the end of February 2009 when many of her student pals received £700 and she didn't, initially we accepted that she wasn't going to receive it.
After, talking with work colleagues at my local college, who knew more about the finance system, they told me to pursue it, she had been in receipt of the full maintenance grant so she should have recieved the full bursary of £700.
I emailed the University and my daughter made an enquiry there, low and behold, the only reason she had not recieved what was due to her, was that we had not given 'consent' for the Uni to look at our financial details.
We have since given this consent and she recieved the £700 in her account today.
I wanted to share this with you all, as maybe others have missed out on large and much needed sums of money - so do check it out!

Thanks for this. I was really shocked when I only received a £20 bursary whereas my friends were receiving in excess of £500. I've emailed student finance to make sure I'm getting what I'm entitled to!
Thanks again! :money:0 -
Help!!
we are currently in the process of applying for student finance for my daughter. My husband works overseas and we have been informed that the total amount entered on his P60 is what we are going to be assessed on. Granted the wages he receives are tax free but a considerable amount is made up of overseas allowances and flight payments to get him home and I do not see how student Finance can consider this as 'available' income as it is given to him for a purpose by his employers. Student Finance are not interested!! Anyone been through this scenario before or can anyone offer any words of wisdom/advice?0
