Stopping in a bus stop / Stopping on double yellows

I have two tickets!

The first I was happy to pay. I stopped on double yellows to buy a cornish pasty. I was less than two minutes but had got a ticket anyway. Complained to the council since I was under 5 minutes, and they wanted proof I was loading. Fair play, I wasn't loading so I was going to pay. Since getting the second ticket, I thought I'd enquire as to the legitimacy of this ticket too. This happened last month in Islington.

The one that bothers me:

I collected my other half from work late one evening. It was raining so she was waiting under a bus stop instead of outside her workplace. I stopped, let her in the car, asked her how work was, and we went on our merry way. No buses came during this time, I never left the car nor did I wait for anyone not already at the bus stop. Is this right? Happened in Belsize Park on the 22nd of March.

Do I have a chance if I appeal?

Many thanks

  • Was there a yellow sign that said "No stopping except for buses" a bus stop clearway requires one and if it was absent the bus stop was not legally compliant to be fully considered as a bus stop clearway and this may give you a point to appeal on. The bus stop bay markings also need to be compliant, see link.

Unlucky that one. I quite often see people picking up / dropping off from bus stops. To do so elsewhere would normally cause much more disruption.

Picking up / dropping off is fine, that's what bus stops are for IMO. However it's spoiled by those who drive into the bus stop and sit and wait for the person to turn up, meaning the bus can't get into the stop.

Your opinion is one thing but the law says something different. It is an instant contravention for stopping.

i have to confess that before I was slightly more clued up I would have said exactly the same though.
