Went over my limit for a few hours by £6, will I still get a charge?

After making a purchase this morning, I realised that I had gone over my overdraft limit by £6, so within a couple of hours I paid in some funds and brought myself back to within my limit.

I'm just wondering what the likelihood is of incurring a charge. I'm with HSBC. Thanks in advance for any replies.

You more than likely will get the £25 overdraft fee. This is charged when making a formal or informal overdraft request. However you will not be charged any interest.

Wrong. If the overdraft request is less than £10 there is no fee. But it becomes an "event", so if he subsequently requests a formal overdraft in the next 6 months the £25 arrangement fee applies if he's accepted. We also don't charge if the overdrawn position is corrected on the same banking day.

Really!? I knew about the £10 thing, forgot about that :o:o:o Didn't know the charge wouldn't be applied if the position is corrected the same day?? Awesome.

Yep. But again, it counts as an event and they will still hold it against you somewhat, so it's best to avoid it really.

Aye. It's the same at Yorkshire Bank. Except in my case it was £375! They were happy, well as long as you make it up by about 2.30ish to make sure.

Yorkshire Bank assured me it didn't matter one jot, as long as you make it good on the day. Perhaps my bank are just nice?
  • As long as the event happened on the day and the funds were paid back into the account by 3.30pm on that working day-you will not be charged.
Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!
As D'Ream would sing 'Things.....can only get better'!!!
  • My son spent last summer working over sea's I logged on to his bank account a couple of times seeing it was 5 pound over drawn he does not have an over draft, I would correct this and he never did get charge he is with Hsbc.
  • But the debit card payment won't hit your bank account until Monday so no problem.
