My washing machine is making a really loud 'knocking' sound on the spin cycle. It seems to be working ok apart from the noise. should I panic?

:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:

Did someone leave something in their pockets, or is it happening every time you use the machine?
Could it be the bearings starting to go??Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

Hi Frannyann
Possibly something come loose between the metal drum & outer plastic casing or as previously mentioned something in there. However its likely to be bearings/seals & shaft on the way out.
If you know someone with a bit of DIY savvie it would help, 'cos you can buy parts relatively cheaply over the internet. Try www.espares.co.uk for instance. Try to buy the shaft/spindle/spider & bearing kit, as bearings fitted on their own tend to fail again after 6 months or so. I bought a kit for a Hotpoint (my mum's with similar symptoms you've mentioned) last week for under £25 delivered;) . Took a couple of hours to fit but fingers crossed all is well so far.
Good luck.

Thanks for that, The 'knocking' happens every wash now, but everything comes out ok! I think its done well, for a cheapy cheap bought as a stop gap 8 years ago! I don't know anyone with decent DIY experience and although I will try most things, I think this may be out of my range!!:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0 -
Well you could always try and find a local appliance repair person but if it was cheap in the first place and has lasted 8 years you might be as well just replacing it.0
