recently purchased the aldi 2.5hp 25ltr compresor and a spray gun style blaster with the hopes that i can clean up some random car parts before repainting

ive spent ages making myself up a blast cabinet only to find its close to useless , im holding it at close range and its barley shifting paint and going through loads of media

am i being unreasonble to expect to be able to refinish small items with this set up ?

if you have used something at home sucessfully, please post up what you have , i dont mind spending another few quid but i fear its hopeless apart from bolt heads etc

The main problem is the air receiver. You probably need about 200 litres to maintain a reasonable air supply.
  • I've been waiting for Aldi to sell there Air-compressor again, for months now, as I missed it last time.

From the 2008 link http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/58_5174.htm you'll see it sold for £69.99 and came with loads of tools (listed below)

Accessory kit includes: gravity feed spray gun, professional spray gun, long nozzle sprayer/paraffin gun, blow gun, long nozzle extension for blow gun, jet blast wash gun, tyre inflator, 7 piece inflator/deflator set for footballs, li-los, inflatable boats, etc
Airbrush kit includes: airbrush, 60cc and 22cc paint jars, 1.5 metre air hose with air compressor fitting
10 metre and 5 metre air hoses

Now, http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/2827_13371.htm it comes with NO tools (not even a hose) and costs £10 more !!! !!!!!! !!!!

I'm really disappointed, so haven't purchased it. Does anyone know of a current alternative.

And talk about customer service. What's the point of having an Internet presence and no way of emailing them. Really lame.

    re the Aldi's compressors.
IIRC they used to source them from Omega Wolfcraft (who supplied many of the large retail chains with branded stuff*), who went bust about a year or so ago.

Add to that the value of the pound dropping by about 20-25% against various currencies and it's probably not surprising that this years compressor isn't as much of a bargain :( I suspect they're getting them from a different distributor who isn't able to offer the same spec at the price all things considered.

Screwfix used to do a similar set, also I believe supplied by Omega Wolfcraft under a different branding, so may have a similar set to the old Aldi's one.

we bought the Aldi's compressor about 4 years ago, along with most of the tools and it's been pretty good - although I did buy a smaller quiet compressor last year for modelling work (which cost about 3x as much as the Aldi compressor  )

*IIRC they imported the basic units and packaged them according to the requirements of the supermarkets/diy chains.
