Help with new kitchen

Options
Hello

Would really appreciate some advice. Have spent last few months looking around at new kitchens and am somewhat confused!

Really like solid oak kitchens, but modern-ish look with a curved center island. So it seems to be between the Wickes Calgary range and the Second nature broadoak natural range. Wickes started with hideous prices, even with their 40% off sale, but have agreed to price match second nature now. However we have also been to see a Magnet oak kitchen- Geneva and it has come in cheaper than both and their appliance prices are very competitive (even when comaparing online). They also have a 15 year guarantee vs Wickes 5 year (not sure what SN do).

Are the magnet units much better than the wickes units, hence why they have 3 times the guarrantee?

Also my husband is very handy (has fited our two bathrooms and is just about to become a qualified electrician) and therefore wants to fit the kitchen himself to save money (and ensure quality result as he is very fussy). The kitchen is a reasonable size - 15 units not including a small island- how long do you think he would need to fit it? He would not be fitting the worksurfaces or flooring, but would do electrics and plumbing himself.

Many thanks in advance for your help and opinions!

    Hi,

Wickes and Magnet I think are both flat pack kitchens so you would need probably a couple of days to build the units and then for the non proffessional about 6 to 8 days to fit, so about 2 weeks all told. But there are lots of variables, is there any light pelmets and cornice? Extra day for that, etc.

Second Nature is a door supplier not a complete kitchen manufacturer so the retailer generally buys the carcases seperately to the doors so it could be much better quality than the other 2 or much worse!

My advice would be to find a decent independent with a good reputation in your area rather than go to the nationals. Think about glue and dowelled rigid carcases rather than flat packs it will save time on fitting and you will know all the components are there as it is put together already.

    Good luck.
