Amazon DVDs

Please can someone tell me why DVD's I've bought from Amazon won't play on my computer. It can play all sorts of other DVD's; 'Billy Connolly Live in New York', 'Friends series 10' and those free DVD's you get in newspapers, but it won't play the Amazon ones.
The only difference that I can see is that the Amazon ones are 'Anamorphic Widescreen'. Would this make a difference?
I've tried playing them in Windows Media Player 10, RealOne Player and InterVideo WinDVD 4 but nothing works. The RealOne Player said something like 'cannot play files of this type'.
Is there a codec I need to download?
Hope someone with specialist knowledge can give some advice.
Thanks for reading this. :)

    1) You've bought Region 1 disks from Amazon.com and your DVD reader is locked to Region 2
    2) You've bought copy protected disks from Amazon which cannot be ripped onto a computer
  • Your not buying region 1 coded DVD's are you? UK is region 2 If your buying from amazon.com you will be buying region 1 disks (america) check the boxes for region codes

  • Thanks for the replies. I bought the disks from Amazon.co.uk. I can't see a region code on the boxes but can see 'A02' on the playable side of the disk itself. I favour alanrowell's second suggestion; they are most likely copy protected disks. Think I'm going to have to play them in my daughter's Playstation. Would this be possible?
    Thanks :)
  • should be no problem :)

Thanks both; I've played the DVD on the playstation with no problems. :)
  • If you want to play them on your PC then use something like 1Click DVD Copy to burn a copy. Whilst this probably won't work on its own using something like DVD43 will bypass the protection. You should then be able to play the copied version... not sure if tis answers your problem (and I may be wrong...)

You could try using something like DVD43 to see if it is the copy protection stopping your PCs drive from accessing the disc.
