Well good question am and sure people will disagree but I would go American Airlines, infact im flying with them whe I go to america all my flights are with them, LHR > JFK > MCO then MCO > Dallas Fort Worth > Vegas then Vegas > Miami > Key West > Key West > MCO > MCO > Dallas Fort Worth > JFK
Whoop, this should then push me into there Advantage Gold tier with my current points and sectors whoop, I know they get slated on airline quality with reviews but i have never had any problems, they have always been great and a recent schecular change which caused problems was solved with one phone call
Overall AA all the way0 -
First I would go on price, then schedule that suits you. I have flown with both on many occasions and there is very little between them IMHO. Price, schedule in that order, end of.
P.S.
Have a look at the total time duration of flights as wellThe common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
OK US airways is £20 cheaper and it seems to have times that suit me better but am a bit concerned about connection time of 1:35 because it seems Philadelphia is a big airport and i will be changing terminals. Does that time see sufficient?

Not a problem. The airline determines whether you can make the connection or not, and unlike the low cost carriers if you miss it, they just book you on the next flight for free. PHL is a nice airport with probably the best food court of any airport I have been to. From personal experiance id choose United every time. Their connections are fantastic.0

Do they have another flight from PHL to SAN that day? If so, they may put you on that if you are late.
Another thought is have a look at https://www.seatguru.com and see if one has better seat configuration to suit your party than the other.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -

Yes, US151 departs PHL at 5:55p0 -
One other thing you might want to consider is how long you want to spend on the plane. Most of the AA flights go into ORD so you are on the first flight for about 8-9 hours then another 3-4 to your final destination. USairways go into PHL so that flight will be 7 hours then another 6 to SAN. I like that option myself, splits the journey up almost 50-50The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot.
