I used to work for a large University many years ago. We used to say a runner with a cleft stick would have been faster and more reliable than the internal post!"What does not kill you makes you stronger"0

Hi,
A similar thing happened to me after my br. My tax code wasn't changed for three months, when I tried to apply for the refund it all went to the OR, I had apparently been overpaying for a few years and was owed thousands! Unfortunately never saw a penny, it all goes to the OR to clear your debt, whether its before or after br. I was told that was the reason for the NT code is so the money can be put towards the br.0 -
Hi,
The usual reason for giving you a BR tax code is when your employer thinks that this is not your main job ie you have another more substantial job that your tax code is being applied to.
If your employer thinks this is your only / main job then even without a p45 they should tax you on a month one basis and applied one twelth of the standard allowance against your income.

To put somebody on a normal tax code on a month one basis, you still need a P46 signed - HMRC guidelines unforunately so Payroll have no other choice.0
