Hi, I'll try an explain this simply.
We changed our home phone number a year ago no problem, we also have bt broadband talk with a separate phone number which has not been given out to anyone. About 8 months ago, our broadband line started ringing and a lady asked to speak to **** i said she had the wrong number and put the phone down. It rang again same women she said is this number *******? The number she was ringing was our old land line number which as apparantly been assigned to her daughter, who happens to live in the flats at the bottom of our road!! I ring BT to check what was going on and they simply dont understand what I'm telling them and wont send an engineer our to look either. Our broadband phone now rings, everytime this lady trys to ring her daughter and her daughters line is engaged - like the call is being diverted to us when busy, any ideas on how this can be storted, as BT haven't a clue. I think I am explaining myself clearly enough?

I think you have explained the problem well
I assume you dont have any problems with incomming calls to your new landline number , dial 17070 ( or 147017070 if you dont forward your number on outgoing calls) to confirm you are connected to the number you think you are.
You could try ringing your old number and asking the 'new user' of that number if they have an interupted dialtone ( this would indicate they have a call diversion of some sort on the line) and if they have ask them to remove it....although its unlikely that its what the problem is.
If still a problem report your broadband not your landline as faulty and if you get no sense out of the 'off shore' call centre demand to be called back from the UK BTBB people who seeem to be reasonably clued up
When you picked your BT broadband number did you pick a geographic number (same STD code as your landline ) or a non geographic one ?0 -
Thanks very much for your help and advice - will do this asap.
My broadband number has the dialing code for my area.
Thanks once again.:j0 -
