Pain in the bottom builder

Options
I am having my kitchen refitted, and it's beginning to go belly up! If anyone wants to read about it, its at http://builder-blues.blogspot.com/.

Any suggestions would be welcome, either here or on the blog itself.

TIA

I can't understand why you are persisting with this loser. He seems to have more excuses for not working than is acceptable or reasonable, and you are just meekly accepting his stories. How can you possibly say that he is acting like a "professional", everything that you have posted about him would seem to point to him acting in a very non professional manner. He is just giving you the run around. Pull the plug asap and get someone who is prepared to do an honest days work for an honest days pay.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

As col says ditch him, i used a couple of people from them sort of sites you used and found them both to be rubbish. I am not saying everybody on there is but i had one guy and his mate round looked on the website the other day and they had now setup accounts each and where quoting people seperately. So they pair up on whoever gets the work. But if you didn't know you would think you were getting quotes from 2 different people.

Even if you don't have a replacement, ditch him. Whereabouts in the country are you? somebody might know somebody.

The second sentence of your blog gives a big clue.

"as well as offering the cheapest quote"

But I agree with the others don't let him come back.

Indeed, my thoughts entirely, why do people seem to take the " cheapest " quote and then complain when things go wrong?.

Pay a bit more a get a proper tradesman in.

    I get the message guys....

Thing is, I'm not keeping with him but if I want to take this further - and I do - then I have to do everything by the book. You'll see that today was a good day, with my handyman doing just about everything I asked to a very high standard.

If I might say just a little in my own defence... The guy was very plausible when he first turned up, everything would be done to a contract, there'd be a schedule of works, showed me his certificates and insurances. Once there was a contract, and a deposit paid, dumping him became less easy until he vanished without notice.

I know I've been taken for one - but with fingers crossed we should be able to turn this around without too much of a loss;)

I've got a bit of work for 'them sort of sites' (and done a damn good job, I'll have you know!)
What really annoys me is when someone puts in a stupidly low price which makes your sensible price look over the top.
I've seen people put prices in which means the would be working for £40 per day if they were doing the job properly. And people who charge less to supply AND fit a door than i can get it from my supplier so you can guess the quality they are happy to fit.

Anyway, goodluck with your kitchen, it sounds like it's moving in the right direction now.
