Just I thought I would post a quick experience about car insurance with Elephant.

They have for the last couple of years been the cheapest car insurers for me.

I just received a renewal notice, and as usual went off to get comparative quotes. Surprisingly Elephant did not come up as the cheapest.

So, I went to their website, and re-entered my details - shockingly the quote came up more than £100 cheaper. After contacting them on the telephone, they had no reasonable answer as to why!

I would have put this down as a one off....but...
My brother in law was visiting and mentioned that his insurance renewal with Elephant had gone up significantly. One requote later, and it dropped by £200.

So, the moral of the story is check your renewal quotes, especially if you are with Elephant.

I am with elephant now, but not sure I will use them again as I don't trust them fully!

A couple of months ago I changed my car which is the same make and model (but not so high spec) 3 years newer (but still 8 years old!) which has a smaller engine, is three insurance groups lower and is actually worth less!. I expected the premium to be less but no elephant said it is more - £36 till renewal date (4 months). So £100 per year more.

The funny thing was the bloke came back and said if I added breakdown cover at the same time I could have both for £25!

Something weird happening I think and its back to Tescos next year . Their quotes showed my newer car is £30 a year cheaper than my older car.

I think that if you read Martin's own advice regarding insurance, you will find that it is generally recommended to check insurance quotes, either by using a quote engine and checking the best individually, or by other means. Read the article.
