Booking a flight with American Airlines on aa.com

I've been quoted £ 236.40 "Total Price" For direct return flight LHR - JFK (NYC)

When I check "Detailed Fare Rules" it states "A SURCHARGE OF USD 55.00 PER DIRECTION WILL BE ADDED TO THE APPLICABLE FARE FOR TRANSATLANTIC SECTORS."

Does the "Total Price" include this or not!!? Another US$110 (£70) on top of the fare for this does not make it as attractive. I may aswell pay £280ish to fly with Virgin or BA.

Thanks. Quick responses to my dilema most appreciated!

Paid £236.40 with the credit card on the website. Just need to hope I'm not asked to hand over some cash at the airport!
  • You should have stuck with virgin, I had a friend who flew with AA and said they were terrible!

Everyone always knows someone who flew with someone terrible!!

I've flown with AA to JFK last year and it was fine - The cabin crew were polite and attentive - nothing was too much trouble, I got the seats I wanted, entertainment was great and the food was edible.

Ive flown with loads of different airlines and there all pretty much the same, and that includes the very badly rated Chinese airlines.

Airline food isnt really for enjoying its for passing the time a bit.

I'm not too fussed about service/quality, etc.. Just absolute cheapest.

And still noone has answered my question! :(

I have flown with AA a few times and the price you pay on line is the price you pay.

However I've just done a 'dummy' booking and looked at the rules and (of course) you're right!

Isn't this a fuel surcharge and part of the added on taxes?

I don't think you will be asked to stump up any extra cash. However give them a call. I've found their cust services to be very helpful.

I've flown with AA several times and use them in preference to BA. I preferred it mainly for the legroom in econmy which was much better up until recently. I think its back to normal now but their service is still better than BA (which wouldn't be difficult). They're also very good for connections.
