Thank god i live in Scotland:p
This is just going back to Feb haliwide reports so nothing new here that we didn't know before.
A non story if you like;)
Not really a non-story, if it had been anything but this people would start saying "things are turning" or "the other stats are wrong". This is a trusted figure (although slightly skewed cos it doesn't include repos or cash buyers) and the people believe it."There's one peace not worth having, and that's a peace at the cost of the truth"0 -
What is the LR down from its peak value? Does it mirror the 19-20% from the haliwide?
I agree, when people speak of the 07 crash 20yrs from now, they will talk of the LR values.0 -

"Prices have now fallen for 18 months in a row, dragged down by the impact of the recession and the mortgage drought."
Think the Beeb have blundered by saying that...
Land Registry says "It is the eighteenth month in a row where the annual rate of change has fallen."
Which is not quite the same thing. Smaller +ves coming into the index, while bigger +ves were leaving the index, made the rate of change fall, not actual prices fall.
Actual -ves were not seen until December 2007 - as far as LR is concerned. (I know, the lag etc)
Of course, if the Beeb are mixing up Haliwide and LR, then 18 months is about right.
Its just that you'll struggle to find it using LR stats alone. http://www1.landregistry.gov.uk/houseprices/housepriceindex/report/
A bit disappointed others haven't pulled you up Carolt, that what they are here for...getting vertigo sitting on this fence for once...0 -
I know it's probably mean, but we will be better off if house prices continue to drop. We want to hop up the property ladder, but the house we want is too expensive right now. Thankfully we're lucky enough to have some equity because we bought before prices went daft.
Just have to sit tight for the time being and see what happens. Doesn't help whenh you're as impatient as i am!!Sarah.

Have given up.... whatever keeps her happy!0 -
The key thing about this report isn't that house prices have fallen, but it's the acceleration.
That's basically any hope of bottoming out, wiped out.0 -

Wishful thinking Graham.
According to halifax, house prices have increased so far in 2009:p
Facts speak for themselves aswell, 19% in 18mths (halifax) is an average rate of just over 1% per month.
The LR is only down 16.7% but is obviously lagging a month.
Im sure there will be a few threads posted last year that would be claiming 30-40% down by now:D
Like i said wishful thinking.0
