Many thanks everyone for the feed back.
Only need the base unit & want option of easy upgrade
I've emailed a couple of questions to Mesh, their still favorite
I think most PC companies can be a bit hit & miss
We recently had 11 new dells come through the office, 2 didnt work out of the box
I once phoned Dell about a faulty desktop, gave them the serial number and was informed by the girl "yes sir thats a laptop"
"its in front of me its definatly a desktop"
"no sir its definatly a laptop"

As you may have seen in a previous posting of mine - I'm currently having problems with a Mesh pc that was delivered only a few weeks ago. Prior to this I had purchased one (just a base unit) for my husband.
My opinion is that the computers, on the whole, use good quality components, the tower units are huge with plenty of room for expansion, it is easy to customise your order online up to a point. It does seem to take a standard 2 weeks or so for delivery (which you have to add an extra £45 on top for).
When the pc arrives, it is well boxed up, with a decent setup sheet. With the first computer, we had no need to ring customer services, and I think that is where it falls down somewhat. It usually takes around 15 minutes on an 0870 number before you get through to anyone and then it seems to be pot luck as to whether or not you get someone helpful. On the whole, despite my problems, they have been fairly prompt and haven't mucked me around too much, but saying that I have also spoken to 2 seperate people who obviously didn't want to be there and made it obvious that they thought I was wasting their time. Plus I have now been waiting for 2 days for a customer services supervisor to ring me.
I did quite a lot of comparing online for computers - I did consider Dell several times, but for the money, like for like computers were cheaper at Mesh - you could pay less for a Dell system, but then you seemed to get a lot of "on board" stuff and older parts.
It might be worth you seeing if there is a decent local computer shop - see how much they would charge - if you can get a good one there, you would have the added benefit of being able to take it back to the shop if things went wrong.

I've bought FIVE Mesh computers, and have had nothing but good experiences.
I recall a few items having gone faulty, but in each case they replaced the item with minimal fuss. If within the first year, they would send someone around within a few days to replace the item eg. faulty graphics card. Up to three years later I contacted them, telling them I was receiving an error from the SMART disk-monitoring software, saying that my hard disk was about to fail. They simply sent out a new one.
The new parts are often more up-to-date, if the replacement is some time after the original purchase.
No supplier can guarantee 100% that their parts will fail, so it comes to their customer service on how well they can support you. Personally I cannot fault them.
However, when someone raises a question like this, there will ALWAYS be some people who have had good experiences and some who have bad experiences. What you should really do is look for magazine reviews and such like. In my experience, Mesh have always been rated quite highly.
Personally, I would never buy a Dell PC, as I am only too aware how difficult it can be to upgrade some of their proprietary hardware parts (on the other hand, I buy other Dell equipment such as the PDA and 24" TFT monitor).
BTW, I re-built by latest Mesh PC, swapping most of the parts out for individually bought items. Indeed the only item left from the original Mesh PC, is a hard drive! I guess I won't be able to call them for any more support.... (unless that hard disk become faulty of course...)
Cheers,

Hope this helps0 -
Mesh PC bought in 2000 - has been excellent! I think their Customer Services let them down though.
I hear stories of 15 minutes on an 0870 number before you speak to someone! Just for the record, "say no to 0870" has some alternatives.
See here : http://www.saynoto0870.com/lettersearch.php Click on "Search to find an alternative number", then enter 'Mesh Computers'"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0
