giveaway flash drives

There are often special offers (usually connected to the release of a new film) in newspapers for usb flash drives, advertised as free but needing payment of £2 -£2.50 for postage.

Have any of you sent off for these, and if so what is the capacity of the drives? I got the Bourne Ultimatum some time ago when it was a "collect from Smiths" offer, and it is a whole 32 Mb (yes, Mb not Gb)

7day shop often have 1 gigabyte drives for the same price as the giveaways, so are the special offers worth considering or are they rubbish?

  • You can get good, branded 4GB USB sticks for about £6 from Play, Amazon etc so I don't consider them a good deal at all..

You could probably put the guts of a decent capacity one into the batman branded one.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

Generally the capacity of these drives is 128mb - the only real reason for getting them is if you're a fan of the movie being promoted (they do have some interesting designs on some of them - the Watchmen one is quite good!)
The website can be found here - it's not just USB sticks, then also offer promotional DVD's, magazines and a variety of other flash memory based things (including a 512mb Flash video player) all of which you only pay p&p for though, again, you could probably find the same or better online for a little more than the p&P cost.

Thank you Quaint1, I suspected they would still be low capacity.
    I'm now glad I bought a 4Gb Cruzer (U3+Readyboost) from Cdiscount for £6.

The site you mention looks interesting (but overpriced)
I've usually just watched the newspaper offers in the "discount codes and vouchers" thread.
