i'm saying thats its unfair/unrasonable to expect people to work full duties (or do even more, in fear of losing their job), but pay them less.. there needs to be a balance.
btw, when businesspicks yup, does the 5% get backdated?Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
hope you weren't posting this from work, OP!:p
Challenge yourself to find savings of 5% on other things you spend your money on to make up for it - you can count recent interest rate cuts, the improvement in your shopping bills since downshifting, anything to make the pain a bit more bearable, really.
It's happening in a lot of places, apart from maybe the Houses of Parliament where they never seem to lose any pay or allowances.:rolleyes:Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
Balance 19th April '07 = minus £27,640
Balance 1st November '09 = mortgage paid off with £1903 left over. Title deeds are now ours.0 -

Now we're facing approx 1/3rd of the workforce being made redundant (find out Monday).
Which is a good argument for NOT agreeing to take a paycut - as the employer is all too likely to be out searching for redundancies pretty soon thereafter anyways - so what are you likely to gain if you DO agree to a paycut?0 -

The reason this is happening to many businesses is simply because they do not have the same turnover they had previously and therefore have to make savings. No doubt the loss of turnover is more than the 5% cut employees are asked to take. I would think the business would also prefer not to be in this situation and imposing cuts through necessity, not choice.
Doubt very much 5% would be backdated if the business picks up - if you made 5% savings to reflect loss in earnings, would you spend the 5% you saved when back to normal.0 -
Well, presumably a 5% pay cut means 5% less effort.
Where I work, they complain about paying me, even though my work directly brings in 4x that from their client.0 -
15% paycut for me. Came straight out of the blue this week & I don't know what I'm going to do, so you're kind of lucky yours is only 5% (though you probably don't feel like it!)0

Next month will be my 3rd year with a frozen pay, and then my pay will be cut by about 5% in November due to job evaluation. At least I've had time to get to grips with it, but it definitely isn't easy and morale is very very low.0

Hi Tom
Today is the day then! Just to say "Good luck" with it.

Things are pretty grim all round. Am I the only one who feels as if I'm being punished when I haven't done anything wrong?0
