Considering that the supplier has limited knowledge of the customer and usage pattern, I think they do well on the direct debit side of things.
Maybe they don't even have a usage pattern until a few months into a contract.0 -

The faster we get to the position where you pay for what you actually use based on real time data from the meter the better, to avoid hundreds of thousands of consumers providing the energy companies with a free loan. As with most of these rulings nothing much changes...0

The energy companies almost certainly do a credit check, and they have your address so could work out what type of house.
Don't think they would be allowed to share info.0
