Wireless Modem stopped working

Hello all,

I'm hoping someone may be able to help me. I have a Philips SNA6500 wireless modem / router, which has been working fine for the last 2 months. However, it has suddenly stopped working and won't connect to the internet. I have have spoken to my ISP (Talktalk), who were not very interested as I did not get the router through them.

I have tried resetting it to factory defaults and re-entering ISP settings (username and password etc), but it just keeps telling me that it could not connect to ASDL, and to make sure Username and Password are correct (I don't think I could have mistyped them 15 times!!!)

On the router itself, the green XDSL light is solid, which according to the manual, should indicate that that there is no problem with the line.

Can anybody help, or does it look like time for a new bit of kit (this will be disappointing after only a couple of months)? It's amazing how lost I feel without a working internet connection!!

I'd be pretty amazed if the routers gone squiffy after 2 months. It's possible, of course, but solid state circuitry either tend to not work when you get it or carry on working.

    Is this the device?

As you say, if the xDSL light is on then the line should be OK but what about the 'online' light? What's that doing? Also, is there a diagnostic utility with the router? Are you getting an IP address for your network card? I assume so if you've entered the browser-based setup for your user name and password but please confirm.

Yes, that's the machine. The "online light" is not coming on at all. I haven't come across a diagnostic utility, but I am a bit of a novice, so not sure ... I haven't found one anyway. Think I will have to try and phone Philips at the weekend, and see what they can do.

Try typing 192.168.1.2 in to your browser's address bar, that should bring up the utility.

Close but no cigar, the default IP is 192.168.2.1

Thanks for all the replies, just one question - does anyone know how I know if I am getting 'an IP address for my network card'? What do I do if I don't?

Hopefully I may be able to report back at the weekend, if not I may have to wait until I get to work next week to ask more questions!!

I can't see where you have mentioned your operating system but if you open a command prompt and type ipconfig /all you should see the IP displayed as the Default Gateway.

The default IP is stated to be 192.168.2.1 on page 9 of the SNA6500 user manual but ipconfig will reveal the true IP anyway.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post. I just switched on the computer when I got home, and it just connected to the internet straight away without me having to do anything!! Thanks anyway.
