abbey national overdraft charges, was it my fault!

hi, sorry if this is the wrong place, i want sure on where it should go.

Abbey national have charged me £52.25 interest and charges, when i phoned up they abbey operator told me he couldnt see what the charge was for and to wait to see if it is drawn out beause it looked like a error. I checked monday and it was withdrawn from my account, phoned abbey up again and the girl said she couldnt see why i had been charged an she would have to submit a form to another department for them to look into it (should take 10 days:rotfl:). Now i'm always in the black and have a overdraft of £500 although i have never used it.

I was going through my online statement and see where i might have made a error...

I have several accounts with abbey national which i access online a felixable saver and a current account., due to a house sale we have some mony left over from the house.

As of the 5th of march i had £20729, on the 6th I transferred 21k over to the flexiable saver which left me in the red of -£270.42!, i realised my mistake and straight away I transferred £1000 to put me back in the black by £729.58.

I thought £52 was excessive for what was basically a 2minute error on my part, if it is due to this, as abbey at the moment cant tell me what the charge was for then i still think £52 is excessive!!

There appears to be a contradiction here. And again here:
Now i'm always in the black and have a overdraft of £500 although i have never used it.

We either aren't getting the full story, or you're not explaining it very well.

probably me trying to get it in my head right and not explaining it very well. As i say have phoned abbey twice and they couldnt say what the charges were . I looked online and see the £270 in red and assumed it mus be for then. I 'm assuming thats wh the staff couldnt see it either as i'm always in credit. This is the first time have dipped into a overdraft and all because i transferred too much into the saver account abielt a minute or two.

  • If it turns out that the charge is due to you going into the red for a minute or two, I would suggest a polite letter to your branch manager explaining the situation; how it never happened before, that you are a loyal customer etc etc. Worked for me when I went over my Credit Card limit with the Co-operative Bank for one day for the first time in 15 years and was charged £30.

thanks, i have wrote a letter of complaint to abbey, really in esponse to the time it will take them to get back to me. Just lately i have had a few problems with the service and feel like i want to move, real shame as i have bank with with them for 22years.

As you have a £500 overdraft, and you were only £270 overdrawn, that should have covered it. So they may have charged one day's interest on £270, which would only be pence, but there shouldn't be any more than that.

Maybe write a letter simply asking exactly what the charges are for?
