What to put in my ISA share allocation

I am opening two ISA's one for me and one for the missis, will max the cash as this seems to be good general advise for anyone with cash savings but as I understand it I can then put a £3,600 in as shares (or unit trusts / hedge fund type things...)
My question is what would be the best way of using this allocation which would be 7200 for us both. We could afford for this amount to go down as well as up and am considering it a long term investment. I just bought some stocks but did not do that within the ISA's and understand I cannot transfer them in. What should I pick? Can I get corporate bonds / index linked bonds, are these good ways to go, or should I just take a punt on two or four decent big firms that may be undervalued (realise this might loose me some of the value but for this one years allocation it would not be the end of the world, but not fun either!)
Thanks for any advise!

Ok but the firm I am with will not do it, I will note that for choosing the next ISA though.
