media player stopped working

My Media player has stopped working. When I try to open a film, such as an episode of Lost I've downloaded the player wont even start.
I am running Vista.
If I go into start search I can see media player but I just cant get it to start, It was last working 7 days ago and I've no idea what I have done since to cause this.
Any help greatly appreciated.

tried vlc?

yes- windows media player, I can play files thru creative and itunes.

are you using a genuine windos OS?cos of peope In know that this happened to were on pirated windows.

no, its all legit and have had the pc since feb 07 with no probs at all.

try uninstalling it and then downloading a new copy from the ms website?
