Hi, i was just looking for some advice, i was looking for a life assurance policy to cover my mortgage, i currently do not have any children, i was looking at legal and generals decreasing joint policy for my husband and i, if we get this and at some point in the future we have children, can we get another life insurance policy for a lump sum if anything happens to either of us?
Also..just a bit of advice on the questions they ask when you are applying (sorry if these are stupid!) when it asks about any conditions your parents, or siblings have, my husbands dad has recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, would i need to say this? Also, when it asks about any lung conditions, i have mild asthma but ive never been hospitalised or anything, do i say yes to this 2? One last one! (sorry) but there is also one where it asks if any lumps or tumours have been removed, i had a mole removed earlier this year, it was all fine, would i need to say yes in this as well? Im just worried because they are just yes or no answers, and if im saying yes to all these, it sounds really bad!
Thank you!

Yes, you can apply for further life cover when you need it. Either with L & G , or with another company.
When you apply for insurance, they ask you the questions. Just answer them truthfully, as any non diclosure could result in it not paying out in the event of a claim.
I don't think your father in laws diabetes, your mild asthma, or the mole removal should affect the premium at all though. From my experince, none of these things are usually classed as serious.I am a Mortgage adviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. You can have as many as you like.my husbands dad has recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, would i need to say this?
I havent done a paper application with L&G for a while as they dont come out best priced very often. However, it is usual for the insurer to ask about serious illnesses of parents etc before a certain age. It usually lists the sort of things they want. If in doubt you should always declare it and let the insurer decide if its important or not. Also, when it asks about any lung conditions, i have mild asthma but ive never been hospitalised or anything, do i say yes to this 2?
Absolutely. Any medical condition you have should be declared in there somewhere with just a minority of exclusions. One last one! (sorry) but there is also one where it asks if any lumps or tumours have been removed, i had a mole removed earlier this year, it was all fine, would i need to say yes in this as well?
Yes. You need to declare everything that has occured medically within the criteria of the questions asked. This would fall under the "have you had any tests, investigations or operations etc in the last 5 years" or similar text to that.Im just worried because they are just yes or no answers, and if im saying yes to all these, it sounds really bad!
Its worse not to declare them and find the policy is voided on a claim. Also, they are not just yes/no boxes. You tick the yes/no box but then have to give details later on.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only.
