EDL payment on M&S card-warning to others

I check my M&S credit statement religiously every bill. I discovered this month a payment for £120 to EDL (?!?) the number later I discovered to be a telephone no. I called this number very late that night and got voicemail followed by music plus they identified themselves as, phonetically, Electronics Direct Limited. I couldn't remember ordering anything of that amount nor could I find anything new electronically in my house. I phoned the number again during office hours only to hear "this service has been suspended". I googled EDL and found Electronics Direct Limited a UK company. I phoned them (different number). A salesman was very understanding and helpful because I had not been the first to call; he sent me a preformatted email about the company Electronitz Direkt Limited. They do have a website with supposedly electronics gadgets to sell with an office address in London. That's as far as I have got. Am waiting on M&S to investigate my dispute and hopefully refund the money. As to EDL I have no idea how an order was payed for on the internet with my card and security number that has not been out of my sight. Not sure how much if at all this is a scam but it does seem odd that "this service has been suspended"!

    You are not alone!
Just checked my Tesco credit card statement and found a transaction for 94.99 for EDL. Same as you have tried to ring them and telephone account is suspended. Same as you I would know if I've had an electronic gadget delivered!
have rung credit card helpline and have been told to ring chargebacks dept. on monday to report the problem. My husband is telling me not to worry as I am surely covered for fraudulent transactions. Long wait until monday though.
Husband found this thread while googling EDL and fraud and your post came up , just shows it's worth posting info as I don't feel so bad now knowing I'm not the only one. They must have scammed loads of people at £100 a go hoping they don't notice.
Don't they know moneysavers know every penny they spend and check their statements!

Think that the M&S reference should be removed from the post title, because it's not really an issue caused by M&S!

  • OMG! Can't believe I've found this! I have been a victim of this card scam as well.

Back in May I was charged £119 from a company called Galo Ltd via a site called electroniczdirekt dot com based in London. I hadn't bought anything on my card (everything gets logged as my memory isn't the best) and I would have remembered something of that amount. Anyway I contact my CC company (Capital One) and they took the money off them pending an investigation. A few weeks later they sent me details from "their" bank, stating that everything was above board, the details were about some sort of paypal/ebay transaction but obviously was totally bogus.

How can I get my money back? - I really think CapitalOne have been duped here! I tried to explain that the details were fake but Capitaol One said it came from a bonafide bank even though I told them until I was blue in the face  that I hadn't bought anything! Funnily enought soon after my credit card company gave my money back to the scammers that site closed down!

Should I contact trading standards? How did these people get my card details?

Thanks for listening, thought I was really losing it, buying things I couldn't remember about!
